SARS - Fact sheet for Janitorial Staff Training
  • Only trained janitorial staff shall perform work in high-risk areas and only with their supervisor’s authority.

  • Staff donning a N95 mask should understand how to get a good seal to the face and know how to don and doff the mask.  In some countries, qualitative fit testing is required.  After cleaning activities, the N95 mask should be doffed and discarded before gloves are removed.  The N95 mask is not required for cleaning activities.

  • Non-sterile disposable gloves (impervious/latex) are required to prevent possible skin contact with any infectious agents while cleaning activities are performed. However, gloves are not intended to replace proper hand hygiene.  Immediately after cleaning activities and after doffing the N95 mask, gloves should be removed and discarded in a bag and sealed, then thrown away in the regular trash.  Hands should be washed with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer immediately after gloves are removed.  Gloves must never be washed or reused.
